Alstom wins hydroelectric contracts

13 September 2005 – An Alstom led consortium has won a €150m ($184m) contract to modernize a hydroelectric plant for Brazilian utility Furnas Centrais Elétricas S.A.

The contract, worth around €50m to Alstom, is for the modernization of six generating units with a total capacity of 1050 MW at the Luiz Carlos Barreto de Carvalho power plant located in the state of Sao Paolo.

The refurbishment of each unit will take around seven months and is due to finish by 2010.

Alstom also announced a €35m contract to supply electrical and mechanical equipment to the Qiaogong hydro power station in China’s Guangxi Autonomous region.

The contract, signed with Guangxi Fangyuan Power Company is for the delivery of four 57 MW bulb turbine generator units and associated accessories. With runner diameters of 7.4 metres, the bulb units will be among the largest in the world.

The first unit is scheduled for operation in 2008 and the last in 2009.
