Siemens to power pulp mill in Uruguay

2 September 2005 – Siemens Power Generation is to supply two steam turbine generator sets to a new $1.1bn pulp mill in Fray Bentos, Uruguay.

Finnish company Botina S.A contracted Siemens to provide an interruption free supply of steam and electricity for its new production plant, which is due to start commercial operation in the third quarter of 2007.

Rene Umlauft, head of the industrial steam turbines division at Siemens PG, said: “With this order, we can further expand our leading position in the pulp and paper industry.”

The extraction backpressure and the extraction condensing turbine generators are each rated at 83 MW. The different designs of the turbines will enable the production process to be supplied with steam at different pressure and temperature levels.
