The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued standard procedures for the interconnection of generators no larger than 20 MW, thus reducing time and costs associated with installing generation infrastructure by removing interconnection uncertainty. The commission has designated its rulemaking as Order 2006. The rule reflects the input of a range of utilities, small generators and state commissions and reflects the positions of The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. It adopts many of the best state and federal interconnection practices. The rule orders utilities to ammend Order 888 to offer non-discriminaory, standardized interconnection service for small generators.
