Mitsubishi Heavy weighs in for Westinghouse

11 July 2005 – Japan based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries could pay up to $1.8bn for Westinghouse Electric Co. if its bid for the nuclear power plant builder is successful.

Westinghouse, the US nuclear equipment company owned by the UK company BNFL is currently considering its options after its chief executive revealed that more than ten parties had registered an interest in purchasing it.

Mitsubishi and Westinghouse have worked closely together since the late1950s. Earlier this year the two combined forces to bid for a nuclear project in China.
