Work to begin on utility scale wind energy forecast system

19 May 2005 – A team headed by the meteorology services company WindLogics will begin work this month on the utility scale wind forecast system Xcel Energy awarded a near $1m grant for.

“The goal of this Research and Development project is to define, design, build and demonstrate a complete wind power forecasting system for use by Xcel system operators,” said Mark Ahlstrom, CEO of WindLogics. “System operators and energy traders will be able to more accurately project energy needs and plan appropriately to assure uninterrupted power supply.”

The project team headed by WindLogics also includes EnerNex, a systems consulting company; Areva T&D, a supplier of energy management systems, and the Utility Wind Interest Group, an organization that has studied integration of wind energy on utility systems.
