San Diego schools soak solar

16 May 2005 – Ten schools in San Diego, USA, have had photovoltaic roofing systems installed after GE’s financial services arm provided $9.5m of investment for the projects.

Installed by Solar Integrated Technologies, the ten systems in total generate more than 1 MW of solar power. Four remaining campuses in the city are expected to have integrated photovoltaic roofing systems installed in June 2005.

Following an initial investment of $17m for the San Diego City Schools project, GE Commercial Finance Energy Financial Services has the right of first refusal on up to $500m to fund future Solar Integrated Technologies’ solar roofing projects.
