US EPA finds a further 12 areas that meet new air standards

6 April 2005 – The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has added a further 21 counties in 12 areas to the list of regions that meet the nation’s new air quality standards for fine particle pollution.

Home to over 197 million people, 30 states have so far been declared to have met the EPA’s required standards. The 12 areas that have now been added to the ‘attainment’ list are spread across nine states with a combined population of 5 million.

The remaining 39 ‘non attainment’ areas are required to achieve clear air status by no later than 2010.
