Gazprom nuclear deal approved

29 March 2005 – Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has approved the purchase by Gazprom of a 53.85 per cent stake in the private company Atomstroyeksport.

Aleksandr Pirozhenko, deputy head of the FAS directorate for monitoring the fuel and energy sector said the deal does not break any antitrust laws. The takeover was originally announced at end of November and FAS said then it might challenge it.

Atomstroyeksport was set up in 1998 and is one of the world’s largest companies building nuclear power facilities in foreign countries.
