Tennessee Valley Authority awards system wide engineering contract

23 March 2005 – Washington Group International has been awarded a contract from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide comprehensive engineering and technical services over the next five years for the utility’s power plants and transmission systems.

The contract also contains an option for a five-year extension for work at the company’s 59 units, which include 11 coal fired plants, 29 hydroelectric plants and one pumped storage facility, 72 combustion turbine units at six sites and three nuclear plants. Under the contract the engineering and technical services will also encompass TVA substations and transmission systems.

Washington Group has provided modification and maintenance services for TVA’s fossil and hydroelectric plants since 1992. Under a previous contract Washington provided engineering facilities for over 400 facility modifications.
