GE win first CSA in Eastern Europe

22 March 2005 – Romania’s state utility, Societatea Nationala Nucleoeletrica S.A, has signed a five-year contractual service agreement with GE Energy to cover a steam turbine generator unit at the only operating nuclear power plant in Romania.

GE will supply maintenance, parts and services for the Unit 1 steam turbine generator and related balance of plant equipment at the Cernavoda nuclear power station.

“This is a milestone project for GE Energy,” said Ricardo Artigas, president of GE Energy’s services business. “It marks our first CSA in Eastern Europe, a region with growing power needs where we see strong opportunities to use our services technology and experience to help power plant operators extend the reliable operation of their facilities.”

The 706 MW Unit 1 at Cernavoda meets more than ten per cent of Romania’s electricity requirements. A second unit is under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2007. Long-term plans call for five nuclear units at the Cernavoda site.
