21 March 2005 – FPL Energy, the largest US generator of wind power, is to create two new projects that will generate more than 220 MW of wind energy capacity in Texas and Oklahoma.
The Callahan Divide Wind Energy Centre in Taylor County, Texas, will utilize 76 of GE Energy’s 1.5 MW wind turbines. The 6000 acre site will supply 114 MW to the Texas grid. GE said that installation of the wind turbines would be completed before mid 2005.
The Weatherford Wind Energy Centre in Custer County, Oklahoma, will use 71 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, totalling 106.5 MW. The project will be completed by the third quarter of 2005 and the Public Service Company of Oklahoma will purchase the power generated.
