Technopromexport win Indian plant tender

3 March 2005 – Russian power engineering group Technopromexport has been awarded the contract for a RS19bn ($436m) power plant contract from India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), following a competitive tender.

Technopromexport beat off competition from domestic company Bharat Heavy Electricals and Korea’s Doosan for a 1980 MW power plant at Barh in Bihar.

Awarding the contract to Technopromexport had attracted controversy because the company had allegedly failed to meet pre-qualification criteria. A spokesperson emphasised that an NTPC team visited Technopromexport’s plant and verified the data the company had given.
