Ofgem’s REGO Register system goes on-line

1 March 2005 – An Internet based system to provide evidence of electricity produced from renewable energy sources was launched yesterday by the UK’s energy regulator, Ofgem.

Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) were introduced as part of a European Union directive to promote electricity from renewable energy sources. Requested by UK generators, Ofgem stated that the REGOs would prove electricity was produced from renewable energy sources.

The REGO Register will hold details of account holders and it will allow generators, suppliers and the Non Fossil Purchasing Agency (NFPA) to manage their accounts online.

Ofgem will hold a workshop on the REGO Register in April for generators and suppliers. Those interested should email [email protected]

The Register can be found at http://www.regoregister.ofgem.gov.uk.
