Transition Switch Overload Protection

Cummins Power Generation has introduced a new PowerCommand closed transition transfer switch. The switch features a “blow-on” style contactor for enhanced survivability in the event of a short circuit or overload. Operator safety has also been improved with a new external manual-operating handle. This feature increases protection during manual overrides. The new closed transition transfer switch has a speed adjust feature that works with the PowerCommand generator sets for reliable closed transition transfer. Available in 125 to 800 amps, two, three and four-pole configurations, the transfer switch can operate in three modes: closed hard transition, open transition or programmed transition. A stored energy actuator provides consistent high-speed transfers between 50-75 ms. When operated in closed transition mode the control will continually monitor and record the speed of each transfer. The control selects the optimal time to transfer based on the speed of the contactor and the phase relationship between the two sources.

Bearing Selection Guide

The Timken Company has released an enhanced version of its electronic Tapered Roller Bearing Selection Guide for design engineers. Version 2.0 allows users to analyze bearing selections for new and existing applications, calculate bearing life based on a variety of criteria, and save data in electronic, print and/or report form. Users can calculate predicted bearing life within their environments and vary parameters to see how projected life will be affected. The ability to save data eliminates the need to re-key parameters for similar applications and allows designers to share information with others in their organization. The Tapered Roller Bearing Selection Guide Version 2.0 includes an enhanced bearing search function; installation calculations, drawing options that allow users to print or save bearing prints in electronic formats, guidelines regarding the selection process, mounting, lubrication and damage analysis; and reference tables regarding materials and lubricants.

Dual Drive Pulleys

Rulmeca Corporation’s motorized head pulley-tail system for bulk handling uses a dual drive concept where the conveyor drive power is supplied by two pulleys. The hermetically sealed enclosure increases system reliability while the self-lubricating gearbox design reduces costly maintenance expense. Operator safety is improved by the unit’s “dead shaft” and enclosed drive design that eliminates pinch points. The motorized pulleys come in a variety of standard dimensions and options and are customized depending upon the application. Pulley diameters range from 8.5 inches to 31.5 inches and sizes from 0.5 to 180 HP. Maintenance is minimal, requiring oil changes every 10,000 operating hours or five years of single shift operation.

Temperature Transmitter

Emerson Process Management announces the addition of FOUNDATION Fieldbus communications to the Rosemount 644 Head Mount Temperature Transmitter. The Rosemount 644 powers the PlantWeb architecture by providing performance information to the AMS predictive maintenance software on the health of the 644 devices and the process. To increase process efficiency and reduce maintenance and operation costs, the transmitter delivers process variables as well as sensor and transmitter diagnostic information. Immediate indication of sensor and transmitter health is provided by an integral LCD display and on an AMS screen. A standard two-year stability specification reduces maintenance and calibration costs. The 644 transmitter carries the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept (FISCO) certification and has two Analog Input (AI) function blocks for communication to other devices. An optional PID block for single loop control is also available.
