China’s Three Gorges power station to add new generating units

27 February 2004 – China’s Three Gorges power station will add four 700 MW generating units to its capacity in 2004, according to a new plan. The additional units would bring the total number of generating units up to ten and the annual power output up to 30bn kWh.

Six generating units were in operation in 2003, with an installed capacity equal to a quarter of the total new capacity put into operation in the country as a whole.

The power station currently supplies electricity to Hubei, Henan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui.
