Alstom wins €33m power transformer contract in Tunisia

27 November 2003 – Alstom’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Sector has won the largest power transformer contract ever awarded in Tunisia. The €33m turnkey contract with national utility Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG), is part of the country’s tenth grid reinforcement plan.

Over the past few years, Tunisia has undergone significant economic development resulting in an increasing demand in energy, which the STEG is responding to by further developing the national grid.

Under the contract, Alstom T&D will commission, design, supply, and install six autotransformers, 77 power transformers and 77 earthing medium-voltage transformers, spread out across the country.

All power transformers will be produced at Alstom T&D’s “high-tech” transformer factory in Turkey.

Hugues Barbier, Regional Vice-President for Alstom’s T&D Sector said: “Tunisian authorities visited our Turkish factory and were very impressed by T&D’s high quality products. Alstom T&D is very proud to have been entrusted with the largest power transformer project ever carried out in Tunisia.”
