CHICAGO, Ill., Nov. 21, 2003 — Navigant Consulting Inc. announced that it has joined the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program to reduce the environmental impact of electricity generation by building demand for green power.
“Our decision to join the EPA’s Green Power Partnership reflects a combination of environmental and corporate stewardship,” said Lisa Frantzis, Director of Renewable and Distributed Energy for Navigant Consulting. “Renewable energy has made dramatic progress in recent years — so much so, that it is becoming an important part of the fuel mix for generating electric power. Many of our energy industry clients are making wind, photovoltaics, biomass and other renewables part of their energy mix. At Navigant Consulting, we want to ensure we do our part to help renewable energy continue on its fast track. Becoming a partner is one of the ways we can do that.”
“EPA welcomes Navigant Consulting to the Green Power Partnership,” said Tom Kerr, Chief of the EPA’s Energy Supply and Industry Branch. “Commitments to renewable energy by our Green Power Partners are providing big dividends for the environment. Partners in the Green Power Partnership have made a combined total commitment to procuring over one billion kilowatt hours of green power annually. If generated by conventional means, the annual emissions associated with that much electricity would include over 1.4 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, roughly the annual emissions of about 120,000 cars.”
By enrolling in the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership, organizations pledge to replace a specific portion of electrical load with green power within one year — and the EPA provides partners with procurement and communications assistance. As a partner, Navigant Consulting has committed to acquire renewable energy resources in the amount of 24,400 kilowatt hours as part of its total electricity consumption for its corporate headquarters in Chicago during 2004. The Partnership now includes more than 220 organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, states, federal agencies, trade associations and universities.
