Boise, Idaho, May 23, 2003 — Washington Group International, Inc. and Framatome ANP announced that their SGT Ltd. joint venture has received a contract to provide engineering and construction services for the replacement of reactor vessel closure heads at four nuclear power generating units of Florida Power & Light Company.
“SGT is already recognized for its leadership in steam generator replacements, and this new award highlights the total capability that SGT brings to the nuclear power industry in major component-replacement services,” said Louis E. Pardi, president of Washington Group’s power business unit. “FPL is one of our long-term nuclear industry customers, and we welcome this opportunity to support its excellent record of nuclear power operations and maintenance once again.”
The projects will be performed during regularly scheduled maintenance outages at the four units, currently scheduled to begin with Turkey Point Unit 3 in 2004, and continuing with Turkey Point Unit 4 and St. Lucie Unit 1 in 2005, and St. Lucie Unit 2 in 2006. The work includes heavy haul of the vessel heads to the plant sites, creating openings in the reactor buildings, and closure of the openings once the retired vessel heads are removed and the replacements installed. Local union craft labor will be used on the project.
SGT Ltd. is a limited liability company of Washington Group International and Framatome ANP. SGT is a leading U.S. supplier of steam-generator-replacement and reactor-vessel-head services to the nuclear power industry.
Washington Group’s most recent project for FPL took place through a predecessor company in 1997 when SGT replaced the steam generator of the St. Lucie plant’s Unit 1 in record time. In recent years, SGT has also replaced steam generators in nuclear plants in Wisconsin, New York, and Maryland.
