16 May 2003 – Japan’s Toshiba Corporation has won an order for two steam turbine generators worth about 8bn yen ($68.8m) From Florida Power & Light Co. for use at thermal power plants.
Toshiba will produce the generators at its works in Yokohama and supply them to Florida Power & Light in April 2004.
Florida Power & Light will use the generators, each with an output capacity of 475 MW, at power plants it will bring on line in June 2005 on the east and west coasts of Florida.
Toshiba has supplied generators for roughly 40 power plants in the US. Most of these orders, however, have been from independent power producers and order values have been relatively small, in the range of 2-3 billion yen per generator.
With the order from Florida Power & Light, Toshiba aims to make inroads in the market for large-scale generator equipment.
