ATLANTA, May 7, 2003 — Mirant has announced that commercial operation has begun at its new natural gas-fired power plant in Clark County, Nevada, north of Las Vegas.
“Nevada, which continues to grow at a rapid pace, has created a positive investment climate for power plant development,” said Anne Cleary, vice president, Mirant. “As Nevada’s power needs grow, Mirant plans to be here to meet those needs.”
The 533 megawatt power plant is located approximately 20 miles north of Las Vegas in the Apex Industrial Park. The plant utilizes advanced combined- cycle technology and emissions controls for optimum efficiency and environmental performance.
Mirant is providing 325 megawatts of power under a long-term wholesale power purchase agreement with Nevada Power, a vast majority of which will come directly from the Apex facility.
