Dec. 13, 2002 — Two Vericor Power Systems’ ASE™40 aeroderivative gas turbines supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Nagoya, Japan will be used at two separate projects in Japan.
MHI will package the Vericor gas turbines for these applications, Vericor announced Wednesday at the POWER-GEN International conference.
“As a partner in Vericor’s global distribution network, MHI continues to be the leader in ASE gas turbine installations in Japan,” said Ken Peters, Director of Sales for Vericor Power Systems.
“By the end of 2003, MHI will have 21 Vericor ASE gas turbines installed for a variety of power generation, cogeneration and mechanical drive applications. The MHI applications also illustrate the ability of our equipment to operate on a variety of fuels,” Peters said.
The first project will use Vericor’s ASE40 gas turbine for a cogeneration plant at the Chunichi Shimbun newspaper print mill in Nagoya City. The cogeneration plant is situated on a narrow floor of an existing building, generating 2.6 megawatts of power and more than 16,000 pounds per hour of steam. The steam is used for air conditioning and hot water heating.
This natural gas-fired unit is scheduled to begin operation by the end of 2002. The Chunichi Shimbun newspaper has a circulation of 3.3 million readers. The second project is at Japan Petroleum Exploration Company’s Yufutsu Natural Gas Liquefaction Plant in Hokkaido, where an ASE40 gas turbine will drive a nitrogen compressor used in the cooling of liquefied natural gas.
In addition to its excellent performance record, the ASE40 was selected for this project due to its lightweight and small footprint design characteristics. The unit, which will be fired by natural gas, will commence service in October 2003.
MHI handled the installation of these packages for both projects. Each compact MHI package features high efficiency, high reliability, ease of maintenance and low emissions capabilities.
Gas turbine controls for all the packages are provided by Vericor, and are based on industry-proven Allen-Bradley PLC hardware. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Japan, is a supplier of gas turbine power plants from 2 to 334 megawatts.
