FPL Group appoints Ron Green president of engineering and construction division

JUNO BEACH, Fla., July 29, 2002 — FPL Group Inc. recently announced that Ron F. Green has been appointed President of the Engineering and Construction Division, overseeing corporate-wide power plant engineering and construction activities.

Green previously served as president of the company’s wholesale power generation subsidiary, FPL Energy. Succeeding Green as president of FPL Energy is James L. Robo, who had been serving as vice president of corporate development and strategy for FPL Group.

Both Robo and Green will report to Lew Hay, chairman and chief executive officer of FPL Group.

Through 2005, FPL Group expects to construct power plants in Florida and several states throughout the country, totaling nearly 10,000 megawatts of capacity. “Successful execution of these projects is critical to ensuring adequate and reliable power to our growing customer base at Florida Power & Light and to the continued profitable growth at FPL Energy,” said Lew Hay, chairman and chief executive officer of FPL Group. “We are pleased that Ron, who has extensive experience in managing the engineering and construction of power plants, will be leading this important activity corporate-wide.”

Prior to joining FPL Group in December, Green was president and CEO of Duke Engineering and Services, Inc. and president and CEO of Duke Solutions, Inc., both subsidiaries of Duke Energy. He was the founding president of Duke/Flour Daniel, a nationally known construction company.

Green holds a bachelors of science degree in engineering physics and a masters of engineering administration degree from the University of Tennessee.

“Jim Robo has a proven track record of profitably growing businesses, through internal growth as well as acquisitions and during periods of difficult market conditions,” said Hay. “I am confident that Jim and the FPL Energy management team will continue to enhance shareholder value through a disciplined and very focused growth strategy and a renewed emphasis on cost management.”

Before joining FPL Group in March, Robo was at General Electric for ten years, most recently as president and chief executive officer of a major division of GE Capital. He also served as chairman and CEO of GE Mexico and was a member of the GE corporate development team. Prior to joining GE, Robo was vice president of Strategic Planning Associates, a management consulting firm.

Robo received a BA Summa Cum Laude from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
