Joint Venture will apply Westport Gas Technology to Cummins Engines

Issue 4 and Volume 105.

Cummins and Westport Innovations have formed a 50/50 joint venture to develop and market low-emissions, high performance natural gas engines. Westport will contribute its high-pressure direct injection technology and other proprietary natural gas technologies, and Cummins will include its medium-duty spark-ignited natural gas engines and proprietary engine related technologies for industrial and power generation applications.

“There is increasing demand for natural gas powered products capable of demonstrating diesel-like performance and reliability in most of our markets,” said Tim Solso, Cummins chairman and CEO. “This joint venture combines the best of Westport’s and Cummins technologies.” Westport president and CEO David Demers said products coming from the joint venture will economically match diesel performance and deliver environmental benefits.
