KCP&L hires Black & Veatch to conduct data acquisition project

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 5, 2000—Black & Veatch was selected by Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) to specify, procure, install, configure, and provide training for an electronic Operator Rounds Data Acquisition system for the new Hawthorn Generating Station combined cycle unit.

Goals for the fast-track project include:

  • Evaluating the advantages of portable computing devices for data collection.
  • Developing a more innovative process for recording physical conditions of the plant
  • Increasing the effectiveness of plant operators by semi-automating the previous manual data collection activities.

This combined production reporting will benefit KCP&L by providing operations, plant management, and support staff the ability to better analyze and report on the physical and financial condition of the new units.

Black & Veatch presented preliminary findings and recommendations in July, which resulted in the decision to go forward with a larger scale rollout.
