SSCI signs agreement with NewEnergy to form energy buyer’s pool

Sept. 12, 2000-NewEnergy has entered into an agreement with the Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI) to establish an energy buying pool for SSCI members. It covers approximately 170 steel producers, steel processors and steel service centers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

In this energy buying pool, SSCI has negotiated competitive electricity prices and beneficial contract terms on behalf of its members with NewEnergy. SSCI members will be able to contract directly with NewEnergy to purchase electricity and may save up to 10 percent off the electricity generation portion of their bills.

Tom Conley, SSCI president said, “After an extensive selection process, we feel that SSCI has teamed with an electricity provider that will be a great benefit to our members.”

Brian Hayduk, NewEnergy vice president said, “We are excited about this partnership with SSCI, which will enable their members to take advantage of the opportunities to reduce costs in this new electricity market.”

Based in Chicago, SSCI is an international trade association representing more than 400 member companies with more than 1,100 locations in North America. SSCI acts as an advocate throughout the United States and Canada for steel service centers. Steel service centers are the critical link in the supply chain that connect steel mills with manufacturers.
