Babcock & Wilcox Wins $4.8 Million Low NOx Burner Order From Allegheny Energy

BARBERTON, Ohio-The Babcock & Wilcox Co. (B&W), a subsidiary of McDermott International Inc., has been awarded a $4.8 million order from Allegheny Energy Supply Co. LLC, the energy supply subsidiary of Allegheny Energy Inc., to supply 40 low NOx DRB-4Z burners and associated equipment for the Fort Martin Power Station Unit 2 in Maidsville, WV.

Under the contract, B&W will supply 40 DRB-4Z burners, overfire air (OFA) ports, lighters, scanners, furnace wall openings, coal pipe modifications, and burner management controls. The new DRB- 4Z burners are designed to reduce nitrogen oxides emissions by an additional 60 percent beyond the capabilities of the plant’s current cell burners. B&W will also provide field service engineering and operator training.

Fort Martin Power Station Unit 2 is a 550 MW coal-fired Universal Pressure (UP) boiler originally supplied by B&W in 1967. The plant is located approximately 75 miles southeast of Wheeling, WV.

Fabrication of the burners, OFA ports, furnace wall panels and piping is scheduled to begin at B&W’s West Point, Miss., facility in September 2000. Delivery is scheduled for February 2001 with start-up in May 2001.
