Sithe Energies Inc. has completed the $1.67 billion purchase of 21 non-nuclear power generating plants from GPU Inc., more than doubling its North American generating capacity to 8,074 MW.

AmerGen Energy Co.’s purchase of Three Mile Island Unit 1 from GPU Inc. for $100 million is complete. AmerGen also recently purchased Clinton Power Station.

France’s Framatome and Germany’s Siemens have announced plans to merge their nuclear operations to create the world’s biggest nuclear construction and services company. Framatome will have a 66 percent stake and Siemens a 34 percent stake. Meanwhile, BNFL has agreed to purchase ABB’s nuclear power businesses, which will be merged into BNFL Group’s Westinghouse Electric Co. Purchase price is $485 million.

AES Corp. has completed its $3 billion acquisition of the 3,960 MW Drax coal-fired power station in Yorkshire, North England from National Power.

NRG Energy Inc.’s acquisition of 2,235 MW of steam generating stations and remote gas turbine capacity from Connecticut Light & Power Co. is complete.

Midwest Generation’s $4.8 billion acquisition of Commonwealth Edison’s 12 fossil-fired plants has closed.

Black Hills Generation and Indeck Capital Inc. have purchased a 111 MW combustion turbine generating facility that is under construction near Denver from Public Service Company of Colorado.

Allegheny Energy has completed its $75 million purchase of the assets of West Virginia Power.
