AlliedSignal and MTU München have agreed to form a joint venture company called Vericor Power Systems to market, sell and provide customer support for aeroderivative industrial and marine gas turbines from 0.5 to 15 MW.

Wisconsin Energy Corp. has announced plans to acquire Wicor Inc. for $1.28 billion. The boards of directors have approved the purchase. The combined company will retain the Wisconsin Energy Corp. name and Milwaukee headquarters.

Arcadis Geraghty & Miller and the Gas Research Institute have formed an alliance, Acurex Energy, to commercialize natural gas cofiring and related technologies.

Indiana Energy Inc. and Sigcorp Inc. have signed an agreement to combine into a new holding company, to be named Vectren Corp. The two Indiana-based companies anticipate regulatory approval within six to nine months.

Columbia Energy Group continues to reject hostile takeover attempts from NiSource Inc.

GPU Inc. has agreed to purchase Cinergy’s interest in Midlands Electricity plc in the United Kingdom.

Alstom and ABB have received European Commission approval for their joint company. Other regulatory approvals are still needed.

Ametek Inc. has acquired Gulton-Statham Transducers Inc., from Mark IV Industries Inc.

Energy East Corp. and CMP Group Inc. have signed a merger agreement under which Energy East will acquire all the common stock of CMP Group. Under the agreement, David T. Flanagan will be chairman, president and CEO of CMP Group and will become president of Energy East. The companies anticipate receiving all regulatory approvals within one year.

Cummins Power Generation Americas and Wartsila NSD North America Inc. have formed a joint venture, Combined Energy Systems, to provide natural gas- and light fuel oil-fired distributed energy solutions and services in North America.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued approval of AES Corp.’s purchase of Cilcorp Inc. and of the ScottishPower and Pacificorp merger. FERC also recently gave approval to the National Grid Group’s $3.2 billion takeover of New England Electric System. FERC also gave its nod to the BEC Energy and Commonwealth Energy System merger.
