Merchant Plant Will Burn Waste Fuel
NP Energy Inc. and Ohio National Energy LLC have announced a 15-year, $700 million marketing agreement for the output of a planned 280 MW merchant plant in Ohio. The plant will be the first waste-fuel repowering project built on a merchant basis in North America, according to NP records.
The project will use clean coal technology to burn waste coal in a circulating fluidized bed boiler at the R.gif. Burger Plant, owned by Ohio Edison. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall with commercial operation scheduled for late 2000 or early 2001. p
