Filter System Removes Plutonium from Slurry
Framatome Technologies Inc. (FTI), in conjunction with Colorado-based Arrakis Inc., recently demonstrated that the FTI Electromagnet Filter (EMF) is effective in removing plutonium from contaminated soils through an independent test at the University of Nevada-Reno. Testing was conducted by sending soil slurry through the EMF in a single pass. The test confirmed that the filter could remove significant amounts of paramagnetic materials, such as plutonium and uranium, from liquids and slurries.
The technology was developed to remove suspended solids such as magnetite and copper, from the water streams at nuclear power plants. p
