Engage Energy US, L.P. and HEC Inc. have entered a strategic alliance to provide customized energy solutions throughout North America.

The New England Electric System (NEES) has purchased the 50 percent interest in AllEnergy Marketing Co. previously owned by Eastern Enterprises for $5.38 million. AllEnergy is now a wholly owned subsidiary of NEES.

Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group has picked up a $4.5 million order for 27 low NOx DRB-XCL burners for Colorado Springs Utilities` Martin Drake Station.

ABB has been awarded the $27 million contract from Dighton Power Associates L.P. for the power train of the 170 MW Dighton merchant power plant.

DB Riley Inc. has won approval from the U.S. Department of Energy for the construction of an 80 MW “proof-of-concept” low emission boiler system (LEBS) power plant. The plant will be located near Springfield, Ill. Construction will begin in 1999 with commercial operation set for 2001. Other members of the Riley team include Sargent & Lundy LLC, Thermo Power Corp., Reaction Engineering International, and the University of Utah.

Pacific Enterprises and Enova Corp. have announced that the name of their combined energy company will be Sempra Energy upon the expected completion of their merger next summer.

Wisconsin state regulators have indicated that, due to lax plant management at Point Beach nuclear plant, they would not look favorably on the $65 million in surcharges Wisconsin Electric Power Co. is asking for.

Electric Fuel Corp. and the Center for Sustainable Technology have announced a memorandum of understanding to establish the first U.S. based Electric Fuel battery demonstration site in Las Vegas, Nev.

Ballard Power Systems Inc., Daimler-Ben¥AG and Ford Motor Co. have announced a memorandum of understanding to develop fuel cell technology. Daimler-Ben¥holds 20 percent of Ballard and Ford now holds 15 percent.

BFC Gas Company L.C. and BFC Electric L.C. have broken ground on a 7.5 MW biomass conversion facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Dresser-Rand Co. has announced the formation of an Energy Systems Division, combining the Steam Turbine Division and the Electric Machinery Division. The new division is headquartered in Wellsville, N.Y.

Power Team, PECO Energy Co.`s wholesale energy marketing unit, and Tenaska Inc. have announced an agreement for Power Team to market the output of a new 800 MW natural gas-fired power plant to be built in east-central Texas, about 75 miles north of Houston. p
