Virginia Power eyes more staff reductions
Virginia Power laid off 66 employees at the close of October and has announced plans to cut several hundred more in the next two to three years as it retools commercial operations. Virginia Power, with about 9,600 employees, has been downsizing since 1989, when staff stood at near 13,600. Employees have already been trimmed in corporate, nuclear and several other operations. The focus is now on the commercial operations division which employs approximately 4,900 workers for billing, customer service, and maintenance and repair.
