B&V designing 80 MW hydro site
Gauley River Power Partners L.P. has retained Black & Veatch (B&V) to design and construct a hydroelectric generation facility at the existing Corps of Engineers` Summersville Dam, located in Summersville, W.Va. The project, part of a flood control dam, will include two vertical Francis turbine generator units. The plant will have a nameplate rating of 80 MW and will be capable of supplying 69 kV electric power to the American Electric Power transmission line in Fayette County, W.Va. The plant is designed for a head of 220 feet and a flow of 8,000 cubic feet per second. Commercial operation is planned for July 1998.
