SDG&E plans another rate cut
San Diego Gas & Electric has (SDG&E) announced a 2-percent rate decrease request that would cut its 1996 electric rate by $32 million. This would be the second rate decrease for the company in the past two years.
The current decrease request is attributed to a reduction in operating costs, lower fuel costs, increased sales and successful implementation of a performance-based ratemaking structure, emphasizing productivity and reliability without sacrificing customer services. If approved, the decrease would put SDG&E`s system average rate at 9.67 cents per kWh. In 1994, the rate was 10.1 cents per kWh.
