Duke facescompetition and emerges victorious

Yadkin Inc., the electric power subsidiary of Alcoa`s Badin Works in North Carolina, chose Duke Power over eight other power entities to supply future energy needs. Duke has served Badin`s aluminum operation for more than 60 years, but in March, Yadkin solicited other suppliers.

“The Energy Policy Act of 1992 gives our wholesale customers the right to shop around for power,” said Eddie Stubbins, general manager. “However, in this case, Duke Power offered the best package.” Under the agreement, Yadkin Inc., with more than 200 MW of hydroelectric power, will operate its generation in closer coordination with Duke.
