Bergen stationrepowered

Public Service Electric and Gas Co., Ridgefield, N.J., has repowered its 650-MW Bergen generating station. Bergen was originally two 275-MW coal-fired steam units which were converted to heavy fuel oil and natural gas in 1970. The utility recently spent $360 million removing a steam unit and installing four combined-cycle combustion turbines, which produce 470 MW. A heat recovery steam generator was also installed, bringing total capacity to 650 MW.
