Midwest Energy Emissions Corp. Provides Operations Update

06/18/2013

Midwest Energy Emissions Corp.(OTCQB: MEEC) today announces an update on its current operations and offers a market discussion by its President and CEO.

As background, in April of 2012, theU.S. EPA's Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS)rule was finalized, requiring U.S. coal and oil-fired units over 25 megawatts in size to reduce mercury emissions by approximately 90% (the exact amount depending on the mercury content in the fuel burned), starting in April 2015.  The EPA believes that this law affects 1,100 coal and 300 oil-fired units and estimates the annual cost of compliance with the new standards to be approximately $9 billion.  Currently, several states have established their own limits on mercury emissions, providing for a near-term market opportunity for MEEC; while the major market for mercury removal resulting from MATS's deadline for compliance will be realized in less than two years.   All power plants affected by the MATS rule will be required to be fully compliant with the MATS standards by April 2015 (with a one year extension available in certain circumstances). This new mercury emissions capture services market will create a large and on-going, annual revenue stream for the very best suppliers of such services.

US Patent Issued to Idea Labs on June 18 for "Pole mounted rotation platform and wind power generator" (Oklahoma Inventor)

06/18/2013

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 18 -- United States Patent no. 8,464,990, issued on June 18, was assigned to Idea Labs Inc. (Owasso, Okla.).

"Pole mounted rotation platform and wind power generator" was invented by Juan Esteban Flores (Owasso, Okla.). According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A pole mounted rotation platform and wind power generator that is secured to an existing structure, which may or may not be vertical, to augment an existing power grid. The pole mounted rotation platform and wind power generator includes a wind sail assembly and a platform capable of rotating about the existing structure. The pole mounted rotation platform and wind power generator may be assembled, secured, leveled and aligned to the existing structure as component parts and in such a manner that any existing equipment on the existing structure does not need to be repositioned or relocated. During usage, the wind sail assembly rotates about the existing structure via the rotation platform, the resulting rotational energy is converted to electrical power, and the electrical power is output to a suitable power-using, -storing or -converting system." The patent was filed on Sept. 29, 2010, under Application No. 12/893,632. *For further information, including images, charts and tables, please visit:

Europe facing a risky future; Utilities are spending less on aging power plants and new infrastructure

06/18/2013

FULL TEXT

On the outskirts of Scunthorpe in northern England, workers at the large power station known as Keadby 1 are preparing to shut it down at the end of the summer, with the loss of about 40 jobs.

Its owner, the British utility Scottish & Southern Energy, says fluctuations in global energy markets have made the natural gas power plant unprofitable despite a multi-million pound renovation, as demand for electricity has plummeted since the financial crisis.

In response, the company plans to keep Keadby shut down until at least 2015. It has also delayed new energy investments and is planning to close almost a quarter of its fossil fuel power plants, including parts of the Ferrybridge coal power station near Leeds in northern England.

Statement of Ernest Moniz Secretary U.S. Department of Energy

Committee on House Science, Space and Technology

June 18, 2013

Chairman Smith, Ranking Member Johnson, and Members of the Committee, thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today to lay out my vision for the Department of Energy.

I have had the opportunity to meet with several members of the Committee during my first four weeks on the job and I look forward to meeting with and working with this Committee in the coming weeks, months, and years. Indeed, I look forward to continuing my engagement with members of Congress from both parties and both chambers to constructively illuminate our perspectives on important national challenges and to seek solutions in a collaborative fashion.

I am very pleased to be back at the Department of Energy (DOE), even if some have characterized my return as a .triumph of hope over experience.. I served as DOE Under Secretary during the Clinton Administration, after working as Associate Director for Science of the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President. In fact, my experience at the Department was that we could indeed accomplish much and I do have hope and expectations for doing the same in collaboration with Congress.

A Year Later, SDG&E's Sunrise Powerlink Delivering On What It Was Designed To Do; In Addition to Boosting Reliability to the Grid, the Transmission Line is also a Catalyst for Renewable Power Production and Economic Benefits

06/18/2013

One year afterSan Diego Gas & Electric(SDG&E) energized and put into service the 117-mile Sunrise Powerlink transmission line linking San Diego to the renewable-rich Imperial Valley, the positive impact of this infrastructure project is enormous not only to the San Diego region, but also to the state of California.

When theSunrise Powerlink was energizedJune 17, 2012, it instantaneously brought additional imported power into the San Diego region.  The transmission line played a pivotal reliability role last summer without the 2,200 megawatts (MW) of generation that the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) provides to the region, and will again be one of the most important mitigation measures helping to maintain electric reliability without SONGS during high customer demand this summer.
