SMA America Inc. released the Sunny Island 5048U. Like its predecessor, the 4842U model, the Sunny Island 5048U is designed to provide continuous, off-grid power from renewable sources such as solar, wind and hydro, with the ability to handle grid input for backup applications. The new model has the added capacity of 20 percent more wattage, plus a new interface.

The new Sunny Island 5048U provides continuous power of 5,000 watts at 48VAC at 25 degrees C (or 77 degrees F)a significant boost over the 4248’s 4,200 watts.
The Sunny Island 5048U can be remotely monitored through a variety of communications options. The optional SMA “GenMan” (generation management) unit couples with the Sunny Island 5048U to provide back-up control to a connected generator.
When the Sunny Island 5048U is in charge mode, it can supply a connected battery with up to 100 amps of electricity. When the battery’s stored power is needed, the Sunny Island 5048U changes to invert mode in 0.02 seconds.

Power and control center
TDI Power introduced its compact power and control center, designed to provide -48 volt power, rated up to 1,200 watts. Occupying only three standard rack units of height, it provides three hot-plug 400-watt rectifiers that convert 90-264 volts AC into DC suitable for battery charging and float. Power distribution is provided through 15 GMT fuses. The battery connection is protected by a circuit breaker and an optional LVD is available for additional battery protection. The power center is monitored and controlled with TDI’s eLink100 Ethernet controller, designed to provide full Ethernet and SNMP functionality.

This power center enables site performance management by providing power and signals for flush fans, door alarms and other environmental controls. For additional network awareness, an auxiliary 12 Volt DC output can be used to operate an Ethernet switch.

Basket strainers
Basket strainers made of Kynar PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) are now available from Micromold Products Inc. and its distributors. These units are made to capture undissolved solids.
A sister product of Micromold’s PVDF Y-Strainers, these corrosion resistant, all plastic FLUOR-O-SHIELD basket strainers are designed to operate at temperatures of up to 300 F (150 C).
The strainers remove suspended or waste solids from corrosive or high-purity fluid streams, to prevent damage to sensitive downstream equipment such as pumps, valves, instruments and spray nozzles. The Micromold PVDF strainers are resistant to UV radiation. They are FDA compliant and they are engineered to have a high rigidity and resistance to creep under mechanical loads.
The Micromold design offers the advantage of a compact envelope together with a high-capacity, slant-head PTFE cartridge. A removable screw top and drain plug allow cartridge removal quick clean-out. Encapsulated o-ring seats are intended to prevent blow-by and external leakage in this all-fluoropolymer wetted-surface construction.
Sizes to 3 inches with a wide variety of connections and mesh screens are available.

Wilcoxon Research introduced a new side-exit, low-profile accelerometer with an integral cable. The 787F is the integral cable version of Wilcoxon’s 787A side exit general-purpose sensor with a permanent Viton boot and Teflon jacketed cable.

The 787F accelerometer’s integral cable is permanently mounted and designed to eliminate concern about the connector backing off the sensor. The low-profile sensor is designed with a side-exit connector and captive screw for installation in confined areas.
The integral cable 787F uses the same construction methods as the 786F top exit integral cable sensor. With fully welded construction, the sensor is hermetically sealed to 1x10-8 cc/sec. for protection from harsh operating conditions with exposure to various chemical, slurry spray and highly corrosive compounds, especially at high temperatures.
The 787F is designed for condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance programs where the sensor is mounted to machinery in a wet, dirty or harsh environment or in an inaccessible location. The accelerometer is intended for vibration monitoring of fans, motors, pumps, blowers, compressors, chillers, gearboxes and mixers, as well as other industrial applications.

The new TRIBO.d2 (Model 3400) is a two-wire, loop-powered, emissions monitor for high or low temperature applications, designed to detect and locate impending filter malfunctions in industrial dust collectors. These industrially hardened Auburn monitors are made to process minute electrical currents generated when particles impact or pass nearby strategically located sensors within fabric and cartridge dust control collectors.
Triboelectric monitors require no lenses and track increased emissions activity. The TRIBO.d2 operates by continuously transmitting data to PLCs, data loggers or any other control devices providing 24V loop power. The TRIBO.d2 is designed to detect and locate filter failures.

Gas analyzer
Titan industrial FTIR systems are intended to provide real-time, multi-component extractive gas phase analysis for applications including industrial hygiene, CEM, process optimization/control, specialty gas QC and research. Wind towers
Northstar Wind Towers has begun to produce MW towers for the wind industry that are engineered to individual turbine manufacturer’s specifications and are sold as an integrated part of the turbine assembly. The company’s modular design allows for wide base diameters that are not subject to many transportation restrictions.
Northstar’s towers are designed to be transportable on standard flatbed trucks. The towers avoid flange-connected designs while maintaining the appearance of conventional tubular towers.

Air filter sampling system
Veotec Limited developed a way to measure the efficiency of air filters. The Isokinetic Sampling System was developed to provide both filter manufacturers and end users with a way to measure the true performance of filters while in service without any interference to the plant. The product was originally designed for gas turbine intake systems.
This system is designed to measure both pressure drop and efficiency correlatable with the En779 filter standard. These measurements are taken with the system operational without having to remove a filter and take it to a laboratory. It is designed to be installed on a filter housing and left to monitor the filters over a long period of time taking readings at user defined intervals and stored on an internal database, thus giving the operator and the filter company invaluable information of filter efficiency and pressure drop trends during the life cycle of a filter. Pre-determined alert levels can also be preset to give the user an alarm when performance or pressure drop reach a given level.
The Isokinetic system is designed to be connected to the internet, enabling secured remote access to the results anywhere. A portable unit has also been developed with all the features of the fixed unit, but it allows multiple site readings to be taken using one unit.

Self-retracting lifeline

HYDAC has introduced a low-pressure single and duplex return-line filter that meets API requirements. Filters provide filtration efficiency beta greater than 1,000. Flow rates are available up to 1,000 gpm. HYDAC betamicron Filtration is available in 3, 5, 10 and 20 microns. The filter housings are supplied from carbon steel with a standard primer finish, rated up to 150 psi with ANSI flange connections. Both vent and drain connections are standard. The operational capabilities of Sandvik Sanicro 25, together with the new technology, are designed so that boiler temperatures can be increased significantly.
An austenitic stainless steel with high temperature properties, Sandvik Sanicro 25 combines high creep strength, oxidation resistance, structural stability and good fabrication capability. Sandvik Sanicro 25, in tube form, can be used in material temperatures up to around 700 degrees C. It is designed for use in reheaters and superheaters.

In-situ calibration system
Fluid Components International announced the release of the VeriCal in-situ calibration verification system for the GF90 air/gas flow meter. The system is designed to allow plant technicians to confirm flow measurement accuracy without removing the meter from the pipe or process. The VeriCal in-situ calibration verification system for the GF90 flow meter confirms gas flow calibration accuracy to meet process validation, safety and environmental regulation requirements.

The VeriCal System is a GF90 flow element with additional electronics to feed and measure a precise flow of gas from a nitrogen source. To test a GF90 flow meter, the nitrogen gas is flowed through the meter’s flow element and measured at five pre-set measurement points across the meter’s range. The in-situ flow meter test data is then compared to original FCI laboratory calibration and installation benchmark test data for the meter. the VeriCal system for the GF90 flow meter is designed for use wherever periodic flow meter calibration validation is required by the process or regulations.
The GF90 flow meter delivers high accuracy measurement over a wide range, including low flows. It is designed with a thermal mass gas flow-sensing element of 316 stainless steel and nickel-braze construction. Featuring constant power technology, the GF90 can achieve turndowns from 1000:1, accuracy of +1 percent of reading plus 0.5 percent of scale, with repeatability of +0.5 percent of reading or better.
The GF90’s wide flow range is suitable for air/gas flows from 0.25 to 1600 SFPS (ft/sec at a standard temperature of 70 degrees F and pressure of 14.7 psia) or 0.08 to 487.7 NMPS (m/sec at a normal temperature of 21.1 degrees Celsius and pressure of 1.013 bar absolute). It is available for service in broad range of fluid temperature applications, from -100 to 850 degrees Fahrenheit (-73 to 454 degrees Celsius) and pressure applications to 1000 psig [69 bar (g)].
Designed for multi-gas or variable flow processes, the intelligent GF90 Flow Meter includes an advanced microprocessor-based programmable transmitter that can store up to three calibration groups. Each group can be independently configured for a specific calibration range, fluid, switch point settings, etc., to provide accuracy in complicated processes.
The GF90’s transmitter electronics are addressable via a built-in LCD display and keypad or through its RS-232C serial port. This allows the user to perform in-field programming to change zero, span, switch points and engineering units, or to perform instrumentation verification, troubleshooting and other critical functions. The serial I/O ports support access to computers or ASCII terminals.
The GF90’s transmitter features two independent, field programmable analog signal outputs of 4-20 mA, 0-10 Vdc, 0-5 Vdc, and/or 1-5 Vdc, which can be assigned to any combination of flow and/or temperature. It also offers dual alarm switch points with relay outputs. The switch points are user field-programmable to alarm at high, low or windowed and can also be assigned to flow and/or temperature readings. Dual 10A relay outputs are provided for contact closures to lamps, alarm and control systems.
