United Air Specialists (UAS)/Kleentek has introduced a new, easy-to-read digital control panel on its line of electrostatic oil cleaning systems. This new feature allows an operator to monitor the operation of the UAS/Kleentek system and effectively troubleshoot oil filtration problems. The UAS/Kleentek system works electrostatically to draw contaminants of all particle sizes out of hydraulic oil. The new UAS/Kleentek control panel features a text display that shows key operating conditions like motor amperage and oil dwell time. An optional oil temperature monitor helps protect the UAS/Kleentek system components from potential damage due to sustained high oil temperatures. The new panel also notifies the operator of an error by displaying the cause of the error in text, rather than numeric code, and activating a flashing alarm on top of the UAS/Kleentek enclosure. For units installed in remote or hard-to-access areas, the control unit can be connected to a PLC controller to relay the alarm signal.

Rolls Royce has introduced to the U.S. market an aero derivative gas turbine that delivers up to 58 MW of electricity in simple cycle service at 42 percent efficiency. The Trent 60 is available with dry low emissions (DLE) and wet low emissions (WLE). The DLE version uses an eight canular staged combustion system that allows the engine to be operated in part load while still maintaining NOX and CO compliance. The engine is designed to produce 52 MW at ISO conditions and is flat rated at 58 MW at temperatures below approximately 2 C. The Trent 60 WLE uses the annular combustor system from the Trent aero engine with the introduction of water to reduce emissions and boost performance. The Trent 60 WLE engine uses water only in the combustion chamber, keeping water usage to a minimum. At temperatures below 19 C, the engine is flat rated at 58 MW. An online monitoring system allows for the reduction of water usage due to changes in power demand and ambient conditions while still maintaining compliant emission levels. The Trent 60 engines are suitable for baseload, peaking or spinning reserve applications.

Fuel Crusher

Pennsylvania Crusher offers the FBR Hammermill to meet the needs of utility and cogeneration plants for crushers. It is designed to crush fuel and limestone in fluidized bed boiler applications. The crushing chamber is symmetrical and the rotor assembly-consisting of rotor shaft, suspension discs and hammers-is reversible, to make use of two distinct crushing chambers. Regular reversal of the rotor produces uniform wear on the hammers, keeping their edges fresh and producing a consistent output size. The hammers are forged steel, differentially heat treated to a BHN of 500, making them abrasion resistant from the start, dispensing with the need for work-hardening common to manganese steel hammers provided by others. Pennsylvania Crusher has experience with fluidized bed boiler applications and can determine the arrangement and size that will satisfy plant requirements.

Power Monitor

Rockwell Automation has introduced a new high-performance, low-cost power monitoring device that profiles a plant’s energy consumption and utilization data while providing the information needed to better control and optimize energy costs. The Gaumer Co. has introduced the ElectroClean Fuel Gas Cleaning System, which provides gas-turbine-quality fuel-gas from pipeline-quality fuel-gas. ElectroClean consists of an electric pre-heater, pressure reducer, coalescer, heat exchanger and an electric super heater in one ASME pressure vessel. The ElectroClean Fuel Gas Cleaning System is a single, consistent piece of equipment that provides dry, clean gas to any dry low NOX gas turbine. The only other equipment needed is the optional filter/coalescer located on the gas turbine for fine removal of entrained oils and filtration of rust. The ElectroClean Fuel Gas Cleaning System can be placed between any pipeline source of fuel gas and the gas turbine. A single ElectroClean Fuel Gas Cleaning System will protect one or several gas turbines.

Miller-Leaman Inc. has introduced self-cleaning Turbo-Disc Filter side-stream skid systems designed to remove particulate and other contaminants from cooling water, complementing the water treatment program by keeping heat transfer surfaces clean, resulting in lower energy costs for the facility. The filters are designed for HVAC and industrial cooling tower and chilled water applications. Available in multiple micron sizes, the lightweight three-dimensional polypropylene disc media uses a fraction of the backwash water used by conventional sand media filters, resulting in substantial water savings and minimizing the amount of dirty water and water treatment chemicals. All models come with a 2-inch backwash line, eliminating the need for large flush line piping and floor drains. The filters come complete with a pump on a stainless steel skid. An onboard controller monitors the differential pressure across the system, triggering an automatic backwash when dirty.

The SuperVision 140 emphasizes maneuverability and includes several desigh features, including short wheelbase, steerable six-wheel drive and an array of traction options. However, it also presents several new features specifically designed to boost operator productivity: a remote-operated camera lift that adjusts view height to center the camera in a variety of line sizes; a monochrome rear-viewing camera with infrared illumination to help prevent flips and cable snags during reverse travel; and PipeBus network control architecture, which allows concurrent control of multiple functions, supports the attachment of auxiliary sensors and end-effectors, performs onboard diagnostics, and allows the use of lighter-weight cable for extended travel range. The SuperVision 140’s remote-operated camera lift adjusts the height of both forward- and rear-viewing cameras from 3 inches to 10 inches. The forward-viewing camera pans infinitely, tilts ±135 degrees, and zooms 40 to 1. Its LED light ring casts shadowless, full-spectrum illumination, and its lasers project a measurement reference to help size pipe defects.
