Goulds magnetically driven process pumps now offer Dry Guard bearings, which feature a unique diamond-like coating. The bearings are designed to significantly reduce the friction coefficient, enabling longer periods of safe operation under dry run conditions. Dry running can inadvertently occur when a source tank empties or a valve is shut off upstream from the pump. The Dry Guard solution is available in pump models 3296 EZMAG, ICM and 3298 series.

With an advanced “U” tube flow sensor design, the new Model CMU Coriolis Mass Flow Meter from Fluid Components International delivers more than twice the industry standard flow rate than previously available on other Coriolis devices in its class. FCI’s Model CMU flow meter combines large line size service, high flow rate capability and measurement accuracy. Designed for line sizes from 0.25 to 12 inches, the CMU measures flow rates from 2.2 to 80,800 lb/hr. The CMU provides true mass flow measurement with excellent accuracy, while at the same time measuring fluid temperature, density and volumetric flow, making it a multivariable process measurement tool. The CMU’s “U” tube flow sensor design features a lightweight tube, minimal welding and vibration dampening technology.

Gas Station from E/One monitors and controls hydrogen-cooled generators in a single, integrated station. It is a new modular approach to gas control and monitoring for hydrogen-cooled generators that delivers the maximum in protective and performance optimization products and asset management services. It contains the Generator Gas Analyzer that continuously analyzes generator cooling gas during normal and purge operations to ensure optimum purity levels and maximum operational efficiency. It also includes the Generator Condition Monitor, an explosion-proof design that provides early warning of generator hotspots. A regular “collector analysis” program complements the monitor by qualifying and verifying the problem. In addition, Gas Station incorporates the Generator Gas Dryer that removes contaminants from the hydrogen cooling gas through all phases of generator operation. And, finally, it includes the Generator Auxiliary System that enables the utility or generator OEM to display an optimization factor for the generator system.

Pump with High Pressure Universal Joint

Seepex progressive cavity pump universal joints are now available with ratings to 360 psig, allowing the pumps to be used on applications with high suction heads, low NPSHA applications with reverse rotation or in vertical pumps where the joints are exposed to the rated discharge pressure of the pumps. A new proprietary technology allows the joints to be hydraulically balanced and reinforced against implosion from high pressures. The joints are long lasting because they are positively sealed with an elastomer cover and two holding bands. They also are easily inspected or serviced. Each joint uses a hardened pin and bushings that can be replaced in minutes, with minimal manpower. A stainless steel cover is also available to ensure U-joint integrity.

A new Guide to Bag Filtration Systems describes recent advances that Eaton Bag Filtration Systems can bring to filtration applications. Innovations in both the filter housing and the bag filtration media make it possible for Eaton Bag Filters to be used in applications that previously required more costly types of filtration equipment. The guide provides detailed information on Eaton Filtration’s new patent pending Hayflow Filter Element that combines the best of both bag and cartridge filters into one single filtration element. Other Eaton Filtration products also are featured in the guide. Advances in bag filter housings are detailed in a special section of the guide that covers both single bag housings and multi-bag housings for high flow rate applications.

Compact, fast and easy to use, FCI’s Burndy Patcut incorporates the latest in battery tool technology for the electrical market. The ergonomic design allows one hand operation so the user has one hand free to manipulate the conductor into the proper cutting position. The Burndy Patcut incorporates a specialized latch-style cutting head that allows interference-free closure for mid-span cuts and rotates 180 degrees to allow users to get into tight areas easier. It is capable of cutting 1.29 inches of copper and aluminum cable, 1113 ACSR, 5/8 inch soft steel bolts, 1/2 inch standard guy strand, and 3/8 inch EHS guy strand. It comes equipped with a high impact formed carrying case to hold the tool, a tool retention lanyard, a battery charger and two batteries. The tool operates on industry-standard 18-volt Ni/MH batteries that eliminate voltage depression or “memory” issues.

Condition Monitoring Software

GE Energy announced the release of version 6.0 of System 1 software, its condition monitoring, optimization and diagnostics platform. Initially released in 2000, the software now is widely used for online condition monitoring of industrial machinery. Release 6.0 combines numerous enhancements that increase the diagnostic power of the software while making it easier to order, install, use and maintain. Two major platform enhancements are especially important. The first is support for state-based capabilities, allowing discrete machinery conditions, such as machine on/off or various load states, to be used when performing diagnostics and compiling trends. The second is a set of special analytic processes for handling stepless unloaders within the Bently Nevada Reciprocating Machinery Application Package. Users also will find nearly 50 other powerful enhancements in release 6.0. System 1 Software is part of GE Energy’s portfolio of optimization and diagnostic software, dedicated to mechanical and thermodynamic condition monitoring, process optimization, heat balance modeling and reliability enhancement.

Larson Davis, a PCB Group company, has introduced the Model 831, a Class 1 handheld sound level meter with exceedance-based logging analysis (ELA) for community noise assessment. Model 831 features a small, lightweight ergonomic design; real-time 1/1 and 1/3 octave spectra and comes standard with a 120 dB dynamic range. Ten customizable markers are provided to annotate time history data. The sound level meter also has audio and voice recording with replay, supported by up to 2 GB of on-board memory and optional USB 2.0 data stick. For unattended noise monitoring, its event-based logging routines process data on-board to provide time/date, duration, average and max/min sound levels, frequency spectra, time history records of selected sound levels and even digital sound recordings for each event. The routines are specifically designed to save the user time in downloading and post-processing massive amounts of unprocessed sampled data. For optimal digital communication, the Model 831 provides a USB 2.0 port to communicate with a PC for instrument control and downloading data. The unit features one-hand operation, and has an easy-to-read backlit display, whether in direct sunlight or in a dark factory environment. Plus, when used with a PC, the USB cable provides instrument power and recharges batteries, much like an MP3 player.
