RealEnergy, a new firm specializing in installing on-site energy generation technologies for commercial properties, has received equity commitments for $50 million and has announced plans to install energy systems in 20 office buildings throughout Southern California.
Electrotek Concepts and Conectiv Power Delivery have been awarded a contract to assess distributed generation as a way to reduce costs and improve electric service delivery for New Jersey summer resort Long Beach Island (LBI). The project, funded by DOE, will develop a DG strategy to supply power and evaluate DG in terms of cost-savings associated with traditional expansion of transmission, sub-transmission and distribution systems to the capacity-constrained facility.
As a part of its long-term strategy to increase generating capacity, Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA), which provides electricity to 18 municipally operated utilities in south-central and southeastern Minnesota, is looking to add distributed generation in member communities. Dave Geschwind, SMMPA's director of power supply, said, "By having generation installed in its member communities SMMPA is better able to offer increased reliability in the event of a transmission outage. Minnesota's legislature is discussing the benefits of siting generation close to load to relieve congestion on the transmission system.
