Mergers and Acquisitions

UtiliCorp United and St. Joseph Light & Power have agreed to merge in a transaction valued at approximately $190 million. The Missouri utilities expect the merger to be completed in 2000.

Shell and Bechtel Enterprises have formed a joint venture, InterGen North America, to develop, finance, own and operate large IPP and cogeneration facilities in the U.S. and Canada.

Applied Power Corp. has acquired Alternative Energy Engineering, a distributor and reseller of solar, wind and energy related products.

El Paso Energy Corp. and Sonat Inc. have announced a $6 billion merger plan.

British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. has announced the completion of its acquisition of Westinghouse Electric Co. from CBS Corp., plus plans to restructure the company to create a premiere nuclear services and environmental company.

CalEnergy has completed its acquisition of MidAmerican Energy.

The Illinois Commerce Commission has cleared the AES Corp. acquisition of Cilcorp. FERC action is expected soon.

Consolidated Edison and Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc.`s merger plans passed a major milestone as New York and New Jersey regulators approved the transaction.
