El Paso Electric Co. (NYSE: EE) and Newman Solar LLC, a unit of Colorado-based juwi solar Inc., signed an agreement for a 10 MW solar photovoltaic project to be built next to a combined-cycle power plant.
Juwi will develop, design, build and operate the Newman Solar project. The design phase is set to start in early summer, with completion scheduled for the end of 2014. The solar plant will be located next to the 760 MW Newman combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant.
El Paso Electric and juwi signed a 30-year power purchase agreement for the output from the plant.
