Xcel files to increase electric, natural gas rates in Wisconsin

Xcel Energy Northern States Power Co-Wisconsin Public Service Commission of Wisconsin electric rates natural gas rates

Xcel Energy (NYSE: XEL) has filed a request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to increase electric rates by 6.5 percent and natural gas rates by 3.8 percent in 2014. The rate increases would pay for continuing to modernize the company’s infrastructure.

Northern States Power Company-Wisconsin President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Stoering said the investments in baseload power plants, including the company’s nuclear plants, will allow for additional operation for years to come. Northern States Power Co.-Wisconsin is an Xcel Energy company.

Additional projects include new substations in La Crosse, Eau Claire and Fall Creek and adding additional capacity to substations in Menomonie and Viroqua. The company also plans to add install new transmission lines near Stone Creek and upgrade transmission lines around Cedar Falls, Ladysmith, Park Falls and Ashland.
