Areva signed a series of agreements with the China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC) and the China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co. (CGNPC) to develop a Franco-Chinese strategic civil nuclear partnership.

Areva and the CNNC signed a letter of intent to build a used fuel treatment and recycling facility in China. It would use process used nuclear fuel from Chinese power plants to recover the reusable materials and recycle them as fuel. Additionally, the two companies will advance their discussions on the potential equity interest acquisition of CNCC in the Areva subsidiary that holds a 66.65 percent stake in the Imouraren mine in Niger.

Area also signed a tripartite agreement with EDF and CGNPC to complete construction on units 1 and 2 at the Taishan project, and to carry out a successful start of their commercial operation. EDF and Areva will contribute to the improvement of safety, maintenance and performance of the reactors in operation.
