Reactor 4 at Sweden’s 3,700 MW Ringhals nuclear power plant, the country’s largest, was shutdown Dec. 20 after “an infiltration of seawater,” The Local reports. No safety problems were associated with the shutdown, during which salt water will be flushed out of the pressurized water system, the article said.
Ringhals 4 is the second Swedish station to be taken offline this month, after the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority forced two reactors offline at the Oskarshamn plant when the operator was unable to show that routine maintenance had been done on two diesel backup generators.
