EDF has announced that the operating lifespan of the Hunterston B nuclear power plant in western Scotland has been extended by seven years and could operate until 2023 according to the results of a technical evaluation of the plant, the BBC reports.
The 890 MW plant, which employs more than 700 people and provides electricity for nearly half of Scotland’s homes, had been set for shutdown in 2011 but this timeline was previously extended to 2016.
