Wind turbine maker Gamesa has announced 92 layoffs in Pennsylvania. According to The Tribune-Democrat, more than half of the manufacturing plant’s employees in Cambria Township are expected to be out of work by the end of the year.
The layoffs are attributed to the expiration of the Production Tax Credit, which is scheduled for Dec. 31.
“Failure to extend the (tax credit), which expires at the end of the year, has caused a dramatic slowdown across the entire U.S. wind industry,” David Rosenberg, Gamesa’s marketing vice president told The Tribune-Democrat.
The same facility dismissed 73 employees during the summer.
