Nuclear power plant operator in China orders backup batteries for installation at plants

China’s Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp. (CGNPC) has selected BYD Ltd. of Shenzhen to deliver 3.5 MWh backup batteries to their nuclear power stations, which will deliver power up to 2.5 MW.

The energy storage station will serve as an emergency power source to safeguard workers and protect station equipment from being damaged in extreme conditions where the nuclear plants may lose their electrical supply.

At the end of July 2012, CGNPC’s installed capacity of nuclear power plants in operation reached 6,120 MWe, with another 17,750 MWe of under-construction nuclear units.
