Midwest Generation is planning to close two coal-fired power plants in Illinois sooner than planned. In February, the company announced that it would shutter the 326 MW Fisk plant and the 542 MW Crawford plant by the end of 2014. According to The Chicago Tribune, the company has now agreed to retire the plants in September of this year.
Midwest Generation originally agreed to clean up or close the plants by 2018 in a 2006 agreement with state regulators.
According to the article, Fisk and Crawford are the last remaining coal plants in Chicago.
